Summary:
The Breen School of Nursing invites applications for the position of School Director. This is a 12-month full-time faculty position with release time to support the administrative functions of the position. Rank is commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026.
General Responsibilities:
The Director serves as the chief nurse administrator and has primary responsibility for the overall leadership of the Breen School of Nursing, including monitoring the quality of instruction, enhancing current programs, strategic planning, developing new initiatives in the school, and representing the school to appropriate external groups. The Director collaborates with all other areas of the University (e.g., Marketing and Enrollment, Student Development and Engagement, University Advancement, etc.) to further the mission of the School and University.
The Director is responsible for evaluating faculty and making recommendations to the Dean concerning faculty appointments. The Director manages the school’s budget, approves faculty and teaching assistants (adjunct faculty) for courses, leads regulatory and accreditation requirement compliance, and is responsible for supporting the development of the faculty and the programs in the Breen School of Nursing.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Provide input into the budget process.
2. Maintain communication with central administration and other units of the controlling agency (University), faculty, students, clinical agencies, and the Ohio Board of Nursing.
3. Ensure regular meetings of the faculty to facilitate communication and participation in planning, implementing, and evaluating the curriculum.
4. Recommend faculty for appointment, promotion, tenure or retention, and termination.
5. Facilitate faculty development, including enhancing educational competencies and orientation and mentorship for new faculty.
6. Establish the faculty or teaching assistant to student ratio for direct patient care experiences at no greater than ten students to one faculty or teaching assistant, or a smaller ratio in clinical settings in nursing where necessary to ensure the safe delivery of nursing care by students, faculty, and teaching assistants.
7. Ensure compliance with all accreditation and regulatory standards, rules, requirements, policies, and procedures for all programs within the Breen School of Nursing.
8. Support leadership development across the school.
9. Ensure that compliance with OAC 4723-5 is maintained.
10. Certify to the Ohio Board of Nursing and any additional constituents, board, in a format prescribed by the board, for each student who is an applicant for licensure in Ohio that each applicant successfully completed the requirements of a program and the date the applicant completed the program requirements.
11. Submit to the board a corrective action plan any time the program administrator submits one or more erroneous certifications of program completion to the board.
12. Maintain resources, including but not limited to classroom and skills laboratory equipment and supplies necessary for students to successfully complete the program.
13. Ensure success of programming.
14. Collaborate with Marketing and Enrollment for recruitment.
15. Collaborate with University Advancement for fundraising
16. Advance professional scholarship across the Breen School of Nursing.
17. Represent the Breen School of Nursing through engagement and leadership within professional organizations to promote ongoing excellence.
18. Serve as a professional role model and mentor for all members of the school.
19. Promote the global visibility and reputation of the Breen School of Nursing.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include:
1. Completion of an approved registered nursing education program in a jurisdiction as defined in paragraph (R) of rule 4723-5-01 of the Ohio Administrative Code.
2. Experience for at least five years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse, two of which have been as a faculty member in a registered nursing education program (pre-licensure).
3. A master's degree with a major in nursing.
4. Must qualify for a faculty appointment and have an unencumbered RN license to practice nursing in Ohio.
5. An earned doctoral degree.
6. Five years of progressive supervisory or administrative experience.
