Do you have a bachelor’s degree in different field but want to be a nurse? Our Second Degree Accelerated Program (SDAP) in nursing gets you there faster with more career options. In the time it takes to complete an associate degree in nursing, you can earn an in-demand Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)—the preferred degree of most major hospitals and health care employers.

After successful completion of this accelerated second degree nursing program, you will be eligible to sit for the RN licensing exam (NCLEX).

The Breen School of Nursing and Health Professions has a 75-year history of nursing excellence.

    • Here you learn in our high-tech skills labs that mimic a real-world hospital setting, complete with state-of-the art 3D, virtual reality technology.
    • Our holistic, values-based curriculum emphasizes patient-care and teamwork.
    • More than half of your clinical hours will be one-one learning with your preceptors, that we provide, and that begin your immersion into the culture of nursing.
    • It is one of the few US nursing programs endorsed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. All graduates leave our program Teams STEPPS certified.

    Format Options

To provide you maximum flexibility, Ursuline's SDAP program is available in both:

    • a full-time 15-month, daytime format
    • a part-time, 24-month, evening/weekend format

Careers: Second Degree Accelerated Program: BSN for Bachelor’s Degree Holders

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistcs, the need for registered nurses is expected to grow by 12% from 2018 to 2028. With the rise of nationwide shortages, the enhanced role of nurses in the future of medicine, including growth in nurses providing primary care and in non-clinical roles like hospital administration, play into a job market that’s trending in your favor.

When you graduate from the accelerated nursing program at Ursuline, you will have the clinical experience to function as a decision maker and caregiver within and across Ohio's health care systems. Nurses today work autonomously in a variety of acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community-based agencies. As a nurse, you might choose to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner, a nurse educator, administrator, clinical specialist, or consultant.

Nursing also offers professional, personal, and economic rewards, with flexible opportunities for hours and career patterns. Earning potential in the field of nursing is excellent, as most of our BSN graduates begin their careers earning nearly $60,000 annually with opportunities for growth.

    Next Stop: Nurse Practitioner?

With a BSN and registered nurse licensing (RN), you may choose to further progress in your career by earning a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Learn more.
