Are you ready to make a professional pivot to educate the next generation? The Master Apprenticeship Program (MAP) is an intensive one-year program that immerses you in the classroom during the school year and allows you to take your foundational methods courses in the summer. At the conclusion of the year, you graduate with a Master of Arts degree and are eligible for state licensure.

Our instructors and mentor teachers are certified, experienced, and highly qualified master teachers who provide you with a unique educational experience (the master teacher working with the apprentice). Our goal is to help you to achieve your dream of making a difference in the lives of children.

    Structure and Format

MAP begins with a 10-week summer session on the Ursuline campus during which you’ll take foundational courses in education, diversity, human development, and curriculum.

What sets the MAP program apart from other programs is the entire school year spent on site in local schools.

The apprenticeship portion of the program consists of placement in one or more classrooms where you’ll work with your mentor teacher and students throughout the academic year. During both fall and spring semesters, you’ll be on site in your assigned school for 3 ½ days a week, and taking classes on the Ursuline campus Wednesday afternoons and all day Thursday. Toward the end of spring semester, you’ll complete a four-week individual student-teaching assignment.

A typical residency/internship day begins by arriving at the placement school at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. In general, you should plan to be at school 30 minutes before the beginning of the day and to remain at least 30 minutes after school is over. Longer hours may be necessary to accomplish planning, student conferences, parent conferences, staff meetings or other professional responsibilities.

    New Part-time Option

Prefer to keep working while you participate in the MAP program? Ursuline now offers a part-time option where students take classes over a two year span, followed by a semester of student teaching. To learn more contact graduateadmissions@ursuline.edu.

    MAP Accreditation

The Education programs at Ursuline College are accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The programs are also approved by the Chancellor of the Ohio Department of Higher Education.

The Master Apprenticeship Program (MAP), an initial teacher licensure program, begins in the summer and is completed in one year. CAEP accreditation indicates that MAP successfully prepares new teachers to know their subject area, effectively serve diverse groups of students, have meaningful pre-service experiences, and use data to drive targeted program improvement.
